Woman sentenced in meth ring in North Dakota

MINOT, North Dakota - A North Dakota woman was sentenced to four years for her role in a methamphetamine network, federal authorities said.

Tara Taxis, 21, of Velva, North Dakota also will serve four years on supervised release after her prison sentence and must pay $100 to a crime victims' fund. She was sentenced in U.S. District Court by Judge Daniel Hovland.

Taxis was charged with three others in what U.S. Attorney Drew Wrigley said was a drug ring that moved methamphetamine from Oregon and the Fargo area into Minot, North Dakota.

The four pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy to make and sell the drug.

The other three defendants - Barney Backman and his son and daughter, B.J. Backman and Amanda Backman, all of Minot, North Dakota - will be sentenced next month, Wrigley said.

The four were arrested after a three-year investigation by the Ward County, North Dakota Narcotics Task Force.
